Gustavo "Gus" C. Garcia

The Gus Garcia Memorial Statue Fund Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded for the purpose of  raising funds for a lifesize statue of Gus Garcia. To remember and honor Gustavo C “Gus” Garcia for  his many contributions in his legal court battles, fighting for the betterment of Mexican Americans in Texas.  To never forget that Delgado v Bastrop started the end of school segregation in Texas against Mexican Americans and that Hernandez v Texas gave Mexican Americans and all Latinos civil rights protection under the U.S. constitution’s 14th amendment as a class apart. Although his primary struggle was to fight for the civil rights of Mexican Americans, his victories also helped other disenfranchised Americans, including blacks and low income Anglos.The statue will honor the memory of Gus Garcia and inspire Mexican Americans, Chicanos, Latinos, Hispanics, not to forget one of our greatest Texas (Mexican American) heroes.
